GLN Equipment - Good, Simple, Low Cost Communication.

The Global Link Network (GLN) is your connection to the Internet when you are at sea. The fast shortwave data connection enables the transmission of all Internet protocols via traditional maritime radio channels. With GLN products, all ocean-going vessels and yachts have access to e-mail accounts, servers and databases.
You benefit from:
- You can use your existing HF maritime radio equipment
- You can work with your usual e-mail program
- You can send and receive all types of document as attachments
- Combination of shortwave communication with other on-board means of communication
- Compatible with the on-board Ethernet system
- Easy installation and configuration

Ship Server ELSE – The Nerve Center.

The ship server ELSE is the perfect assistant for complete communication on board any ship. ELSE uses Ethernet to combine the different communication systems on the vessel. It gives the crew access to e-mail accounts and other services worldwide. Using the Global Link Network (GLN) from Swisscom, you can communicate at economical rates.
ELSE provides all of this:
- Integration of all communication systems on the vessel
- Cost-optimised routing using the cheapest transmission medium
(interfaces for Iridum, GSM, Inmarsat and shortwave) - Frequency control of modern maritime HF radio equipment
(Automatic Link Establishment ALE) - Online compression up to 1:5 permitted; transmission rates up to 5200 bit/s
- Ethernet connection 10/100 Mbit/s
- NMEA interface for GPS position data
- Can be used with the Ship Security Alert System (SSAS)
- Transmission of GPS position data for Internet applications
- Automatic download of weather data
- Transmission of forms and reports
- Webcam connection

GLN Mail Program – The Hot Wire to the World.
The GLN mail program connects a POP3 e-mail program to the Global Link Network (GLN) via an SCS modem. The program scans all the GLN channels specified by the user and receives the data transfer lists. The different algorithms for scanning the most widely spread shortwave radio systems are integrated into the program.
- User-friendly interface to a POP3 e-mail program (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, MS Vista, etc.)
- Runs with MS XP and Vista operating systems
- Interface to Pactor modems II pro, IIe, IIex, II USB
- Automatically receives data traffic information and displays the traffic for its own call sign
- Scans GLN channels as defined by the user and selects the best possible channel
- Sampling algorithm for the most popular maritime radios
- Free choice of frequency bands to be scanned
- Frequency list can be modified or extended manually
- Monitors the function of the Pactor modem
- Can update the firmware of the Pactor modem
Airtime – The Appropriate Cost Model.
The data volumes transferred by cargo ships are different to those of tankers or yachts. For this reason, the Global Link Network (GLN) offers the appropriate communication tariff for every requirement. We are pleased to be able to offer you the best, most economical solution according to your average data volumes. You will be surprised at how economical and transparent it is to communicate via shortwave.
- For large data volumes: charging for bytes transferred
- You will only be charged for genuine data, not for control bits
- No registration fee
- Flat-rate billing for medium and small data volumes
- Attractive package for yachts and charter vessels
- Fixed rates for fax and SMS
